Quartz

Quartz is an engineered surface made up of about 93% crushed natural stone and 7% resins. Unlike a natural stone surface, quartz is non-porous, meaning that it is very resistant to staining. Being non-porous, quartz is also very clean, as bacteria are unable to penetrate it.

Quartz is an excellent indoor material; however, the resins used will fade over the years if placed outdoors.

How does quartz compare to other materials?

  • Quartz is the best material at resisting stains.
  • Quartz does not need be sealed like natural stone.
  • Compared to natural stone, quartz is not as heat resistant; you should not place hot pots or pans on a quartz countertop.
  • As an engineered stone, you will find less variety as in natural stone.
  • Quartz should not be installed outdoors, while natural stone can be used outside.

Care

While quartz is more heat resistant than formica countertops, heat can damage a quartz surface. Do not place hot pots or pans directly on your countertop.
