While granite, quartz and marble are the most common types of stone, we carry others as well. Even if you don't find the type you are looking for, there is a good chance that we can find it for you.
Quartzite is similar in appearance to marble, yet harder than granite. Not to be confused with engineered quartz, quartzite is a natural stone. Quartzite's durability makes it an excellent choice for any environment. True quartzite does not etch and does not need to be sealed.
Travertine is a great natural stone for low traffic areas such as bathrooms or accent furniture. Travertine is porous and softer, and is not recommended for kitchens or other high traffic areas. Travertine, formed in mineral springs, is a natural stone that masons have used since ancient times, in structures such as the Colosseum. Travertine should be sealed to protect this delicate stone from staining.
Dolomite is similar in appearance to marble, but somewhat more dense and durable. However, dolomite is less durable than granite, making it more suitable for low traffic areas such as bathrooms and accent furniture. It is not recommended for use in kitchens or other high traffic areas. Sealing dolomite will make it stain resistant.
Soapstone is by nature stain, acid and heat resistant. This natural surface is a good choice for kitchens. Soapstone is softer than granite or quartz, and can more easily be scratched. However, any scratches can be buffed out with special tools or professional assistance. Once initial mineral oil treatments are completed, no maintenance of this stone is required.
Onyx is a great natural stone for low traffic areas such as bathrooms or accent furniture. Onyx is not recommended for use in kitchens or other high traffic areas. Some onyx is translucent, meaning that light can pass through allowing it to be backlit. Onyx should be sealed to make it stain resistant.
Limestone is a great choice for low traffic areas such as bathrooms or accent furniture. Limestone is not recommended for use in kitchens or other high traffic areas. Formed from fossilized sea creatures, limestone allows you to add a bit of Earth's history to your home. Sealing limestone will make it stain resistant.
